Veolia Hong Kong and ASTRI sign MOU to collaborate on developing autonomous trucks at landfill sites

(9 September 2023) Veolia Hong Kong Holding Limited (“Veolia Hong Kong”) and Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Limited (“ASTRI”) announced a new cooperation in the form of The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU formalises the partnership to develop autonomous trucks to work at Veolia’s landfill sites. 

Witnessed by Mr Laurent Pelletier, Chief Executive Officer of Veolia Hong Kong, Dr Denis Yip, Chief Executive Officer of ASTRI, Mr Norman Cheng, Business Development Director and Mr David Chan, Chief Operating Officer of ASTRI signed the MoU,with the objective to test the viability of using autonomous trucks for works on site to address labour shortage, improve work safety, increase productivity, enhance tracking and logistics capabilities.

Mr Laurent Pelletier, Chief Executive Officer of Veolia Hong Kong is delighted about this partnership to continue bringing R&D through Astri’s expertise and solution to Veolia’s operation in order to maintain the high level of service. The first project we are planning to develop together could help our operations to address the labour force shortage more effectively in Hong Kong.


Dr Denis Yip, Chief Executive Officer of ASTRI said “This is an exciting partnership as it’s the first autonomous trucks directly applicable to waste management through the use of  satellite technology, AI platform for fleet management and dynamic high density maps in order to transport soil within the landfill.”
