HKTDC interviewed Norman Cheng, Business Development Director of Veolia HK

HKTDC interviewed Norman Cheng, Business Development Director of Veolia HK to discuss delivering Waste-to-Energy Solutions for ESG Development in Hong Kong

Veolia is committed to providing clients and society with sustainable solutions that deliver Ecological Transformation, aiming to accelerate the circular economy movement in Hong Kong, and to strive for a carbon-neutral Hong Kong by 2050.

As per the "Climate Action Plan 2050", Hong Kong is shifting to Waste-to-Energy as a way to manage waste and reduce dependence on landfills. Designed, built and operated by Veolia for the Government, T·PARK is a WtE facility for sludge treatment, which has served as a successful example of an integrated Waste-to-Energy facility with a holistic approach for sustainability since 2016.

With a maximum daily treatment volume of 2,000 tonnes, the advanced incineration in T·PARK can significantly reduce the volume of sludge by up to 90%. Meanwhile, the heat energy produced from the sludge incineration process is recovered and converted into electricity. In addition, T·PARK also features recreational, educational, and nature conservation elements for public visitation and educational purposes.

Mr. Norman Cheng, Business Development Director of Veolia Hong Kong, has been interviewed by Alice Tsang, Principal Economist, and Simeon Woo, Economist (Global Research) at HKTDC, to provide insights into the operations of T·PARK. They also discussed the future development of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) in the Greater Bay Area and WtE solutions, as well as local pace and challenges towards achieving the long-term goal of Zero Landfill.
